SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 Release

Posted by in SharePoint, News on February 26, 2014 . 0 Comments.

This week Microsoft announced the release of SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1). But, don't react too quickly as I am sticking with my two month rule of not applying SP’s or Cumulative Updates (CU’s) until the kinks have been worked out in them. If you don’t have an immediate NEED to apply these SP’s, then as I will be doing, hold off to see if SP1 introduces any other issues. When you are ready to apply SP1, you can obtain information from several KB articles listed in this post.

Similar to previous versions of SharePoint there are different flavors of the Service Pack, one for the SharePoint 2013 Foundation and one for the SharePoint 2013 Server editions. There are also flavors for the Language Packs, Office Web Apps, Project Server, and the Duet Enterprise for SharePoint and SAP Server 2.0.

The Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 includes two kinds of fixes:

  • Previously unreleased fixes that are included in this service pack, as well as general product fixes including improvements in stability, security, and performance.
  • All the previously released monthly security updates through January 2014, as well as all the Cumulative Updates (CU) released through December 2013.

The primary details about SP1 are described in KB article 2817429.

The seven variations of SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 are available for download and described in KB article 2850035.

A brief description of the seven Service Pack 1 packages and individual links for them are located in the following table.

I hope this post provides everything you need to know about SharePoint 2013 SP1, but proceed with caution when applying Service Packs, Cumulative Updates, and Hotfixes. Don't be in too much of a hurry unless you really need the fixes.
